When to Service your Septic System

If you don't know the last time your system was serviced best thing to do is just call!

You should service (pump) your septic tank regularly to keep it working properly and avoid expensive problems. Here’s a clear guideline:

🕒 General Rule

  • Every 3–5 years for most households

📊 Factors That Change the Timing

You may need more frequent service if:

  • Large household (more people = more waste)
  • Small tank size
  • Heavy water use (long showers, lots of laundry)
  • Use of a garbage disposal (adds solids faster)

⚠️ Signs It Needs Service Sooner

Don’t wait if you notice:

  • Slow drains or frequent backups
  • Bad odors near drains or outside
  • Pooling water or soggy ground above the drain field
  • Gurgling sounds in plumbing

🧰 Why It Matters

Regular pumping prevents:

  • System failure (very expensive to fix)
  • Contamination of groundwater
  • Damage to your drain field (the most costly part)
